20 July 2011 IBM announced a new version of XIV Storage System which is up to four times faster than previous models.
The new XIV has the following improvements:
- InfiniBand interconnect
- 8Gbps Fibre Channel ports
- More memory
An optional feature that IBM plans to make available early next year that is designed to allow clients to non-disruptively add a solid-state drive (SSD) caching layer to XIV Gen3.
Also some software enhancements have been made:
- Enhanced, centralized administration of multiple XIV systems;
- XIV Plugin v2.5 for VMware vCenter ™ Server
Let’s see what will be next step? May be more tight integration with SVC and StorwizeV7000?
